1] About the Hackathon

The International Hackathon on Mechanical Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing 2026 aims to ignite innovation and technological creativity among engineers, designers, and researchers. The event focuses on the latest advancements in materials science, manufacturing automation, smart factories, robotics, and sustainability in production.
Participants will work collaboratively to develop practical, scalable, and industry-ready solutions addressing real-world challenges faced by the manufacturing and mechanical sectors. This hackathon is a unique opportunity to innovate for efficiency, sustainability, and productivity while bridging the gap between academic research and industrial needs.

2] Problem Statements / Tracks

Track 1: Smart Factory Optimization

Problem: Factories face issues in synchronizing machines, logistics, and workforce efficiency.
Expected Solution: Design an intelligent monitoring and control system using IoT and AI to optimize production lines and reduce downtime.

Track 2: Sustainable Manufacturing

Problem: High energy consumption and waste generation in manufacturing impact sustainability goals.
Expected Solution: Develop a sustainable process model or smart technology that reduces carbon footprint, energy use, or material waste.

Track 3: Advanced Materials and Composites

Problem: Current materials often fail to meet modern performance and cost-efficiency standards.
Expected Solution: Innovate new lightweight, high-strength composite materials or propose techniques for improving existing materials’ performance.

Track 4: Robotics in Assembly and Fabrication

Problem: Manual assembly lines suffer from inefficiency and safety concerns.
Expected Solution: Create an automation or robotic system to enhance precision, speed, and safety in manufacturing environments.

Track 5: Predictive Maintenance Systems

Problem: Unplanned equipment downtime leads to productivity losses.
Expected Solution: Build a predictive maintenance model using machine learning and sensor data to forecast machine failures.

Track 6: Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)

Problem: Challenges exist in material selection, cost efficiency, and scaling additive manufacturing for industry use.
Expected Solution: Develop a design optimization tool or cost-effective material formulation for 3D printing.

Track 7: Human-Machine Collaboration

Problem: Integration between humans and machines in hybrid workspaces lacks efficiency and safety protocols.
Expected Solution: Create an ergonomic, AI-assisted interface or control mechanism for human-machine interaction in production settings.

Track 8: Circular Manufacturing Economy

Problem: Linear production leads to waste accumulation and resource depletion.
Expected Solution: Develop circular economy models emphasizing reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling for industrial systems.

Track 9: Heat and Energy Management in Industry

Problem: Excessive heat loss and inefficient energy utilization in mechanical systems.
Expected Solution: Propose thermal management systems, heat recovery technologies, or energy-efficient process redesigns.

Track 10: Student Innovation Challenge

Theme: Individual participants can propose any original idea or innovation related to mechanical engineering, automation, or manufacturing systems with potential societal or industrial impact.
