Forensic Chemistry in Ballistics and Gunshot Residue Analysis – Training Services provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the chemical methods used to investigate firearms-related evidence. The course covers the chemistry of propellants, primers, and gunpowder combustion products, along with techniques for detecting and analyzing gunshot residues (GSR) on clothing, skin, and surrounding surfaces. Participants will explore advanced methods such as scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), atomic absorption spectroscopy, and chromatography for residue characterization. Emphasis is placed on evidence collection, contamination prevention, chain of custody, and legal considerations for presenting ballistic chemical evidence in court.
