Forensic Chemistry of Explosives – Training Services provides specialized training on the chemical principles, detection, and analysis of explosive materials and residues encountered in criminal investigations. The course covers classification of explosives (primary, secondary, improvised), their chemical signatures, and the mechanisms of detonation and post-blast residue formation. Participants will learn sampling strategies, safe evidence collection, preservation of volatile residues, and laboratory techniques such as GC–MS, LC–MS, ion mobility spectrometry, FTIR, and trace-level surface analysis. The training emphasizes interpretation of analytical results, differentiation between background contamination and relevant residues, and reconstructing blast scenes through chemical forensics. Legal considerations, chain of custody, contamination control, and expert testimony practices are integrated throughout. Case studies of post-blast investigations and improvised explosive device (IED) analyses provide practical, real-world insight. By combining theoretical foundations with hands-on examples, this program equips forensic practitioners with the skills to detect, identify, and interpret explosive evidence accurately and safely.
