Forensic Chemistry of Fire and Arson Investigation – Training Services offers an in-depth study of the chemical principles and analytical methods used in examining fire-related incidents. The course covers combustion chemistry, fire dynamics, and the identification of accelerants such as gasoline, kerosene, and alcohols commonly used in arson cases. Participants will learn sampling and recovery techniques for fire debris, laboratory analysis using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and infrared spectroscopy, and interpretation of burn patterns to distinguish accidental fires from intentional ones. Emphasis is placed on evidence preservation, contamination prevention, and legal admissibility of findings in court. Case studies and practical examples demonstrate how forensic chemistry helps reconstruct fire scenes, determine points of origin, and identify potential arson suspects.
