Forensic Chemistry of Gunshot Residue Detection – Training Services provides specialized training on the chemical analysis and detection of residues produced during firearm discharge. The course covers the composition of primers, propellants, and bullet materials, as well as the formation and deposition of gunshot residues (GSR) on hands, clothing, and nearby surfaces. Participants will learn analytical techniques including scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and chemical spot tests for GSR identification and quantification. Emphasis is placed on proper evidence collection, contamination prevention, chain-of-custody maintenance, and interpretation of results for legal proceedings. Case studies highlight real-world applications in linking suspects to firearms, reconstructing shooting events, and supporting criminal investigations.
