Forensic Chemistry of Paints and Coatings – Training Services provides comprehensive training on the chemical and physical examination of paints, varnishes, and protective coatings as forensic evidence. The course covers the composition of paints, including pigments, binders, solvents, and additives, along with the chemical properties that help distinguish different layers and formulations. Participants will learn analytical techniques such as microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) for detailed paint characterization. Emphasis is placed on evidence collection, layer comparison, and maintaining evidentiary integrity to support criminal investigations. Case studies highlight applications in hit-and-run accidents, burglary cases, and linking suspects or objects to crime scenes.
