International Hackathon on Defense Research and Development
π
July 4β6, 2026 | Mode: Online
Organized by: Mastering Up
Convenor: Ms. Suguna B β Co-Founder & CBO, Mastering Up
π° 1] About the Hackathon
The International Hackathon on Defense Research and Development (DRD 2026) serves as a global platform for innovators, engineers, scientists, and defense enthusiasts to collaborate on breakthrough technologies that strengthen national security, strategic preparedness, and military efficiency.
This hackathon encourages creative applications of AI, robotics, cybersecurity, advanced materials, unmanned systems, communication technologies, and data analytics to revolutionize defense capabilities. Participants will work on real-world challenges focusing on battlefield intelligence, surveillance, disaster resilience, and soldier welfare β transforming defense concepts into deployable innovations.
π― 2] Problem Statements / Tracks
1. AI-Powered Threat Detection and Response
Problem: Manual monitoring of borders and battle zones can delay response to threats.
Expected Solution: Develop an AI system capable of real-time threat identification using satellite or drone imagery, with automated alert mechanisms and predictive analytics.
2. Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Swarm Coordination
Problem: Current UAVs lack intelligent group coordination during missions.
Expected Solution: Design algorithms for multi-drone communication and synchronization for defense reconnaissance, disaster management, and strategic deployment.
3. Secure Communication Networks for Defense Operations
Problem: Communication between field units is prone to interception and data leaks.
Expected Solution: Develop a blockchain- or quantum-encrypted communication system to ensure ultra-secure, tamper-proof data exchange among command units.
4. Smart Soldier Health Monitoring System
Problem: Field soldiers lack continuous health tracking and emergency alerts.
Expected Solution: Create a wearable or IoT-based biometric monitoring device to track soldier vitals and send automated alerts to control centers in case of abnormalities.
5. Predictive Maintenance of Military Equipment
Problem: Unanticipated equipment failures lead to mission delays and risks.
Expected Solution: Build an AI-based predictive analytics tool that forecasts maintenance schedules for tanks, aircraft, and naval machinery using sensor data.
6. Cyber Defense Simulation and Attack Detection
Problem: Increasing frequency of cyberattacks on defense infrastructure.
Expected Solution: Create a cyber defense simulation platform that detects, mitigates, and learns from simulated cyberattack scenarios to strengthen digital defense.
7. Smart Border Surveillance and Intrusion Detection
Problem: Vast border areas are difficult to monitor manually.
Expected Solution: Develop a network of smart sensors, thermal cameras, and AI analytics to detect unauthorized movements or intrusions in real-time.
8. Advanced Materials for Lightweight Armor
Problem: Traditional armor materials are heavy and restrict movement.
Expected Solution: Propose innovative material combinations or nanotechnology-based composites that provide superior protection while being lightweight and cost-effective.
9. Simulation Systems for Defense Training and Strategy
Problem: Training soldiers for combat and emergencies in real settings is costly.
Expected Solution: Build a VR/AR-based immersive simulation system for tactical training, mission planning, and situational awareness improvement.
10. Individual Innovation Track β βOpen Defense Challengeβ
Participants can propose independent innovative solutions focusing on national defense, tactical communication, homeland security, or soldier safety, using technology-driven approaches.
